Islands of Guyana

 Leguan Island is a small island situated in the delta of the essequibo river on the coast of guyana,south america the island is shaped like a gull wing and is nine miles long and 2 miles wide at its widest making it twelve square miles in area.Leguan has a estimated population of about 4500 living in 27 demarcated villages the population has declined fairly rapidly during the past decade as residents leave to settle in more urban parts of guyana or migrate,often to the out of the country the island is primarily a rice farming and cattle rearing community.


Wakenaan is a island of about 17 square miles at the mouth of the essequibo river.It was settled at one time by the dutch; the name wakenaam is a dutch meaning looking for a name its economy is based on agriculture the island like most other islands in the essequibo river,is characterized by lavish greeneries breeze from the atlantic and open space.


Hogg island, the largest of hundreds of islands in the essequibo river in guyana is 5km from the rivers mouth in its estuary with a total area of 23 square miles this island is larger than many caribbean islands its 250 residents are engaged mainly in farming of rice and ground provisions.The population has decreased a lot because of migration to other parts of guyana there is also a primary school on hogg island and a church.
