History of people in Guyana

 Indo guyanese are mostly descendants of indentured labourers from india who are citizens or nationals of guyana they are referred to as indians or east indians they are the largest ethnic group by population by the official cenus. The majority of indo-guyanese were brought here to work in the sugar plantations after the abolition of slavery in 1833 these indentured labourers were firstly brought by ocean vessels the hesperus and the withby which arrive on may 5,1885 they brought 238,000 indentured labourers from india. That is more than any other country in caribbean put together the majority of them were hindus and the rest were muslims and christians there are quiet a bit of culture holidays in guyana such as holi,deepaval,and eid along with indian immigration day also referred to as rama khan which is celebrated on 5th of may every year rama khan being the first two indian nationals to set foot in guyana.
